GolfLM Privacy Policy
Effective October 12, 2026
GolfLM is an iPhone and iPad golf launch monitor app made by Robbie Elias. This page explains what information the app uses and what happens to it. "Your device" below means the iPhone or iPad you use GolfLM on.
In short: GolfLM does not collect, upload or share your personal information. Everything the app records and measures stays on your device. Nothing is ever sent to me. The app contacts other services in only two cases: if you turn on Use Local Conditions, your approximate location is sent to Apple Weather to get the local weather; and the setup video in the tutorial is loaded from YouTube. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
Information the App Uses on Your Device
- Camera. GolfLM films the ball and club at 240 frames per second to measure each shot. The video is analyzed on your device. The captures of your most recent 20 swings are kept on the device for slow-motion replays and are never uploaded. You can turn off saving captures, or delete them, in Settings → Data.
- Motion and air pressure. The app reads your device's tilt to understand how it is mounted. With Use Local Conditions on, it also reads the air pressure from your device's barometer, which affects how far the ball carries. These readings are used on the device only and are not stored with any personal information.
- Location (optional). If you turn on Use Local Conditions, in the first-run setup or in Settings → Conditions, and allow location access, GolfLM uses your approximate location, only while the app is open, to get the current air pressure, temperature and humidity from Apple Weather (Apple's WeatherKit service), which affect how far the ball carries. Your location is sent only to Apple for that request. It is never sent to me, it is not stored by the app (only the weather readings are kept), and it is not used for advertising or tracking. Weather requests are covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. Use Local Conditions is off unless you turn it on. You can turn it off in Settings → Conditions, or turn off location access for GolfLM in your device's Settings app, at any time.
- Shots and settings. Your shot and putt history, clubs and settings are stored in the app's own storage on your device. Shots and putts are kept for a year, and older ones are deleted automatically. If you back up your device to iCloud or a computer, this data may be included in that backup, which is handled by Apple under your backup settings.
- Free shot count. The number of free shots you have used today, and the date, are stored in your device's keychain, so that reinstalling the app doesn't reset them. They are only a number and a date, and they are not linked to you.
- Spoken results. Shot results are read aloud with your device's built-in voices, on the device.
- Sharing and saving. When you choose to share a picture or video of a shot, or save one to your photo library, it goes only where you send it, using your device's share sheet. GolfLM asks for permission only to add to your photo library, never to read it.
Setup Video and Links
- Setup video. The tutorial includes a video showing how to set up GolfLM, hosted on YouTube. When you open the tutorial, the video's preview picture is loaded from YouTube, and if you tap play, the video is played from YouTube's privacy-enhanced (no-cookie) player. As with any website, YouTube (Google) receives your device's IP address and basic device information to deliver the video. GolfLM sends YouTube nothing about you or your shots. This is covered by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Links. Links in the app, such as Find a tripod on Amazon, open in your web browser. Once you're on another website, its own privacy policy applies.
Subscriptions and Payments
GolfLM Pro subscriptions, including free trials, are sold and managed by Apple through the App Store. I never receive your payment details or your Apple Account information. The app checks whether you have an active subscription using Apple's StoreKit. Apple provides developers with sales reports that do not identify you. Purchases are covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can manage or cancel a subscription in GolfLM under Settings → Subscription, or in your Apple Account settings.
Sharing of Information
GolfLM does not sell, rent or share any information with anyone. Nothing about you or your shots leaves your device, except your approximate location, sent to Apple Weather when Use Local Conditions is on, and the requests that load the setup video from YouTube, both as described above, and anything you choose to share yourself. The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking services, and it does not track you across other apps or websites.
Deleting Your Data
You can delete your shots and recordings at any time in Settings → Data, or by deleting the app. Because nothing is sent to me, there is no copy for me to delete. The free shot count may remain in your device's keychain after the app is deleted.
Children’s Privacy
GolfLM is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page, with a new effective date at the top. They take effect when they are posted.
